Chip Roland Zero Keyboards, Vocals

zero.chip-catalyst.jpg Chip began playing professionally in the mid-60's in his native Athens, Ga., mixing together soul, Motown and British rock styles with different bands in the Southeastern states, eventually ending up in his first original band, Winfred Bendix. Chip left Athens for the Macon, Ga. music scene in 1975, where he hooked up with Capricorn recording artists Cowboy and was featured on their album release. In 1978, Chip hit the road with noted Cajun fiddle player Doug Kershaw, with whom he spent two years touring. In the early 80's, Chip moved to Reno, Nv. and joined the local band Sutro, other members of which now belong to MudShark. Chip moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1990, where he met Steve Kimock at a local club. They became friends and he later joined Steve for one of the two appearances of the Psychedelic Guitar Circus. He was enlisted by Zero last spring to fill the vacancy left by Pete Sears, who left to tour full-time with Hot Tuna.
